Abstract
In the digital era, cybersecurity is a major worry. Cyberattacks and data breaches are becoming a bigger concern as technology advances and becomes more pervasive in daily life. Over 300 million records were exposed in 1,108 documented data breaches in the United States alone in 2020, according to a research from the Identity Theft Resource Center (2021). In comparison to 2019, this metric shows a 42% rise in the number of reported data breaches.
Despite the increasing threat of cyber-attacks, research suggests that many individuals and organizations are not adequately prepared to protect themselves. A survey by Cybersecurity Ventures (2020) found that cybercrime is expected to cost the world over $10.5 trillion annually by 2025, highlighting the urgent need for increased cybersecurity awareness and implementation.
This study aims to assess the degree of cybersecurity awareness among students in grade 12. Using the convenience sampling approach, a random sample of 98 students was chosen for the study.
Regarding their grasp of cybersecurity, the survey's conclusions were notable.
The poll results highlight the significance of cybersecurity knowledge among students in Grade 12. They emphasize the necessity of filling up knowledge gaps, promoting preventative security measures, and improving comprehension and implementation of successful cybersecurity practices, including the use of 2FA.
